Emission Reduction Plans / National Emission Reduction Plan (NERP)

In order to reduce emissions, Working Groups prepared Emission Reduction Plans (ERPs): the Elektroprivreda BiH Working Group prepared the ERP for EPBiH; Elektroprivreda RS Working Group prepared the ERP for EPRS; and the operators of the Industrial plants prepared the ERPs for their facilities. The amount of investment for EPBiH and EPRS was optimized within the Directive requirements to reduce the financial strain on both Elektroprivredas.

USAID EIA assisted Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), that is, the entity and state ministries and operators of LCPs to prepare the National Emission Reduction Plan (NERP) for LCPs, which will be implemented from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2027. The NERP is the sum of individual ERPs from EPBiH, EPRS and Industrial plants. The MOFTER Working Group presented the NERP to the decision makers at the state and entity levels, after which the NERP was adopted at the Council of Ministers in December 2015, and submitted to the Energy Community before the deadline of December 31, 2015.

The implementation of NERP will significantly reduce the amount of pollutants into the air. The SO2 emissions will be reduced by 95% compared to the amount emitted in 2014; the emission of nitrogen oxides (NOx) will be reduced by approximately 60%, and emission of particulate matters will be reduced by approximately 90%.
