ONLY THE BIH NATIONAL EMISSION REDUCTION PLAN (NERP) FOUND TO BE COMPLIANT WITH THE EU DIRECTIVE 2001/80/EC

02.12.2016

Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), as a Contracting Party of the Energy Community Treaty, has the obligation of reducing emissions from thermal power plants according to the Directive 2001/80/EC on emissions of pollutants into the air from large combustion plants.

The USAID Energy Investment Activity Project assisted BiH institutions and thermal power plant operators to develop the National Emission Reduction Plan (NERP), which was submitted to the Energy Community Secretariat before the deadline of December 31, 2015. Serbia, Macedonia, Kosovo and Ukraine also submitted NERPs.

On October 13, 2016, the Energy Community Secretariat published Opinion No. 2/16 on compliance of the NERPs filed with the Policy Guidelines on the Preparation of NERPs published by the Energy Community Secretariat in 2014 and Directive 2001/80/EC.

Only the BIH NERP was found to be compliant with both the Policy Guidelines and the Directive 2001/80/EC.
